I started this project back in October 2019 as part of ‘Inktober’, a social media challenge which involved drawing something every day for a month. I decided that I wanted to use the challenge to create a collection of drawings of some of my favourite buildings in Appledore, and it wasn’t long before I realised that it was a project I wanted to explore in more depth.
When the 31 days of Inktober were done, there were so many more buildings that I felt deserved to be in the collection, lots suggested by locals and visitors on Facebook, so I continued. I then used watercolour to bring them to life, rendering them as accurately as possible.
In the time since I painted them, some of the buildings have changed, been painted, or had items removed. I like that this has made the collection into a snapshot in time – and a reminder that time is always moving on.
