Did you know there are more than 300 species of octopus, and as recently revealed by the Netflix production ‘My Octopus Teacher’, they are incredibly intelligent and creative.
Octopus facts: They have three hearts. They spurt out ink in defense. There are species of octopus in every ocean. They live alone except while mating. Sadly both male and female octopi die shortly after reproducing.
One of my followers on Instagram suggested that I paint an octopus, and since I finished it I’ve been seeing octopi everywhere! This octopus print is from my original ink and watercolour painting. When searching for reference photos to inform my painting, I was struck by how squashy and fluid their bodies and legs are – half the challenge was creating a composition which would show off their glorious tentacles to their full advantage.
This octopus art print would look great alongside my Lobster, Trio of Mackerel or Humpback Whale prints to create an under-the-sea themed art wall!
